1920 Cadillac Type 59 Seven-Passenger Touring Car

A longtime supporter of the annual Auburn Auction & Show, ACD Club, and ACDA Museum, Mr. George Glaze is a familiar face in the Collector Car Capital of the World Auburn, Indiana. His first automobile would be a Hupmobile, but his car collecting endeavors would not fully take off till the 1990s, when he began attending the annual Auburn Auction and ACD Festival. It was at this same time that one of his professionally business relationships would turn into a life-long friendship through a common love of cars. That friendship would be with Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A. George and Truett began going to car shows and the Auburn Auction together on a regularly basis, with George acting as Truett’s motorcar adviser helping Truett decide and purchase automobiles from the Kruse Auctions for Chick-fil-A’s corporate headquarters.

Sometime around 2008 or 2009, Truett found and bought this 1920 Cadillac from a museum in North Georgia. While in good condition, the vehicle did not run well and Truett brought it to George Glaze and his mechanic friend, Bill McCall. Breaking the engine down, Bill discovered that the overhead cam shaft was actually missing some pieces. Over the next 18 months, using parts he could find and some he had to have built, Bill rebuilt the cam shaft, resulting in a fantastic running automobile.

Truett and George Glaze often used this example driving it in the country sides and back roads of George. Just two old friends enjoying afternoon rides in an old car. Few people would have suspected they were a successful attorney and the founder of one of the largest fast-food chains in the country. When Truett passed away in 2014, the family asked George to curate his car collection for sale. Among the cars was this 1920 Cadillac Type 59 Touring Car. Goerge purchased it from the family as a reminder of his friendship with Truett.
